Irv Gotti, the influential music executive and founder of Murder Inc. Records, passed away on February 5, 2025, at the age of 54. Born Irving Domingo Lorenzo Jr. on June 26, 1970, in New York City, Gotti was instrumental in shaping the hip-hop and R&B landscape of the late 1990s and early 2000s.


Gotti co-founded Murder Inc. Records in 1998, an imprint of Def Jam Recordings, and played a pivotal role in launching the careers of artists such as Ja Rule and Ashanti. He produced numerous hits, including Ja Rule's "Always On Time" and Ashanti's "Foolish," contributing to the mainstream success of hip-hop and R&B during that era.


Throughout his career, Gotti collaborated with prominent artists like DMX, Jay-Z, and Jennifer Lopez, leaving an indelible mark on the music industry. Despite facing legal challenges, including a 2005 acquittal on money laundering charges, he continued to influence the music scene through his production work and the BET series "Tales."


Gotti had been open about his health struggles, particularly his battle with diabetes, which led to a minor stroke in early 2024. While he had reportedly made a full recovery, his health remained a concern.
